Selah and the Spades

About the Project

I created a fully animated sequence using a monologue from the film Selah and the Spades for Amazon Prime Video's TikTok account. The video has 31 million views and counting.
 
I was tasked with creating an animated video for Amazon Prime Video's TikTok channel. The challenges faced included choosing audio for the project, art directing, character design, and creating the animation. I lead the project from concept to completion while working closely with the social media team at APV.  

My Role

I chose the audio from Selah and the Spades because I knew it would create a strong reaction online. I was given a few audio clips to decide from and the animation for this audio was clear in my mind right away. I chose a color palette and stylized certain elements like the school based on 90's cartoons.

I wanted this piece to be fun and visually interesting while adding to the narrator's overall message.  I used silhouettes, morphs, and quick transitions to make key moments in the audio stand out visually. The project was created in Photoshop and AfterEffects.

Impact

The animation I created became Amazon Prime Video's most viewed video at the time it was posted. With 31 million views and counting, it sparked a conversation online, created engagement on APV's TikTok channel, and brought attention to the film Selah and the Spades.
